Sharegate keeps a trace of the errors encountered during a migration within its logs. You can access these logs to identify if your Office 365 Tenant is being throttled during various Sharegate operations.
Keep in mind that running a migration outside of business hours always reduces the chance of throttling.
Find the Sharegate.log file
- On the workstation where Sharegate is installed, navigate to: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Sharegate.
- In that folder, find the file called Sharegate.log and open it with a text editor, such as Notepad. You may see more than one file with that name, please select the one that ends with .log and not a number.
Please note that AppData is a hidden folder, so you might need to enable the option to show hidden folders in order to reach it. The file might simply be named "sharegate" if your Windows Explorer options are set to hide the extensions for known file types.
Interpret the information
- In Notepad (or your prefered text editor), scroll to the bottom of the file to see the most recent entries.
- Search for multiple errors mentioning "(429) Too Many Request". This indicates that your operations are being throttled.
