When attempting to migrate a list item field that contains an hyperlink, the following message is displayed:
An address was corrected for the field 'My Column' but the resulting address exceeds the limit of 255 characters. "http://some/address/with/more/than/255/characters"
When Sharegate migrates content, it automatically corrects the hyperlinks so that they refer to new elements on the new site instead of old elements from the old site.
This error means that an address contained in a field for a list item was corrected and the resulting address exceeds the 255 characters limitation, so it cannot be inserted into the destination item.
There are 2 possible solutions to this problem:
- Change the name or the location of the element referred by the hyperlink causing this error, so that the resulting address is shorter.
- If you are using "Copy SharePoint Content" to migrate your content, use a custom property template and deselect the "Correct Links" option. This will prevent Sharegate from updating the link, so it will not exceed the character limit. However, please note that the link will still refer to old content from the old site, so you might want to modify it manually after the migration.
