General Settings is the place where you can manage the Explorer, the Local Cache, the Performance and the Permissions.
Prerequisite(s)
Not applicable.
General Settings
Access Settings
Click Settings on the bottom left menu.
General
Performance
The performance setting allows you to choose how many requests can be sent simultaneously to your SharePoint server.
Use the radio buttons to select your preferred option.
Before you select a performance setting, consider the following:
- It's recommended to test the different levels to determine which one is the most appropriate for your SharePoint environment (for example, choosing High may slow down your SharePoint server)
- The Performance setting can be changed during a working process (Reports, actions, edit, or find) and the changes will take effect immediately.
Permissions
For full functionality, we recommend Site Collection Administrator rights (even if you are a Farm Administrator).
To allow Shargate to auto-assign Site Collection Administrator, toggle on (toggle off is the default).
This allows Sharegate to automatically grant your user account the required rights when you access a site collection.
Note: This option only works when you are connected directly to your SharePoint farm. This applies to the user account that is used to connect to the farm as Site Collection Administrator. Permissions added in this way will not be removed automatically. For information on how to undo this action once applied, click here.
Diagnostic Mode
Diagnostic Mode allows you to reproduce an error and send a diagnostic report to Support. This gives them the capability to see exactly when, where, and why something is going wrong.
Please see the Diagnostic Mode article for full details.

System
Explorer
Display options for the explorer.
Display System Lists
To display system list, toggle on (toggle is off by default)
System lists include lists such as Access Requests, Master Page Gallery, etc. If you choose to display them, they will show in the Explorer tree. This makes the operations you perform run on system lists. For example, if you perform a Find operation on a site to find documents larger than a given size, this option will impact whether or not the results include documents found in system lists.
Local Cache
This keeps a local copy of your SharePoint sites and settings, which speeds up operations considerably.
Change the number to set how many days the cache is kept for. Click Clear Cache if you would like to delete all the data (recommended if you have updates on your SharePoint environments).
The first time a query is performed, Sharegate queries the targeted SharePoint sites and then stores all of the obtained information in a local cache that will then be used for subsequent queries. These results will significantly improve query time, often immediately displaying the query results.
Note: To bypass the local cache for a specific report, you can turn it off from the select targets window, just before running it. See Walkthrough - Reports if you need more information about reports.
Notification
Allow Sharegate to display notifications on the Windows Taskbar and Action Center when a task is completed or when your license/trial is close to expiring. Notifications only appear when Sharegate is minimized.
Note: Only available on Windows 10.
Security
Allows Sharegate to connect using invalid certificates.
This is toggled off by default.
Note: When you keep the default setting and attempt to connect using an invalid certificate, you will receive a warning prompt offering you the option to cancel or allow the connection.
System Tray
It is recommended to keep the default settings in order to ensure that your automated tasks run as scheduled and that Sharegate stays up to date.
Toggle off to the first option disallow Sharegate to stay open in your system tray.
Toggle off the second option to disallow Sharegate to open at system startup.
Note: You can still exit Sharegate when it is open in your system tray. Just right click over the icon and select Exit.
Advanced Settings
Help improve Sharegate
Toggle off to disallow Sharegate to gather telemetry data on its usage (toggle on is the default).
This data is used when planning new features to better match what users are doing with Sharegate. No confidential information will ever be collected in this manner.
Enable Automatic Updates
Notifies you of your Sharegate version, and if there are updates available.
Keep the toggle on to allow Sharegate to Enable Automatic Updates. If you toggle off, you will be prompted when updates are available.
Note: Sharegate will only update when in Idle Mode, meaning that it is minimized to the system tray and no tasks are active or migrations are running.
